Maple Bacon Cookies by Rose

Rose from “Eat, Drink, and Be Meiri” recently emailed me to tell me about how she made bacon cookies. She seemed really excited about it in her email so I quickly clicked on the link to see what was up. To my surprise Rose found a way to step the classic bacon cookie up a notch with maple syrup and whisky.

Here is a sampling of her cooking style:

Again with the bacon! Set aside about seven strips of bacon. DO NOT EAT THEM. All of your eating bacon should come from the other bacon. Chop the other bacon up into smallish pieces. Eat as much as you want, but remember, the more bacon that goes in your stomach now, the less bacon you’ll have in your cookies later.

If you can’t tell already, Rose is a little out of control in the kitchen. Thankfully she takes tons of photos and has commentary that goes with each one. I’m not sure if what she posted is a recipe or story of someones struggle to not eat all the bacon.

Check out Rose’s recipe for all the entertaining details and photos.

Bacon LIVE: New Year, New Bacon LIVE

On last nights show Sean and I talked about the goals we set for yourselves last year. I wanted to start the ultimate bacon store and meet Kevin Bacon. Sean just wanted to finish one of his many writing projects. I bet you can’t guess who completed more of there goals.

We also talked about bacon in the news, none bacon related things, and how we have a fan that is a lip reader. Since we want Bacon LIVE to reach as many people as possible we are looking to get the show translated into Sign Language (closed captions are to easy), English, Canadian, and American. If you can help us with this let us know.

We hope you enjoy this new year of Bacon LIVE. This is are third year doing it so maybe well take it to the next level… more bacon!

Bacon LIVE: End of the Year Show

Last night was Bacon LIVE’s end of the year show. Sean and I talked about what we got for Christmas and our best bacon movements of 2010.

I also tried to make this a more interactive show by asking Twitter and the chatroom the same two questions. I even used to sound board to have news brakes about what was being discussed by the chatters (or bits).

I think I ma starting to get the hang of the sound board and the show is starting to have a more organized formate. I can’t wait to see what the new year will bring to the show.

Thanks for helping to make this year successful one for Bacon LIVE. We can’t wait to see you all again next year!

‘Twas the Night Before Bacon Fest

‘Twas the night before Bacon Fest and all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse
The frying pan was placed on the stove top with care
In hopes that Mr. Baconpants would soon be there

The children were nestled all snug in their beds
While visions of thick cut bacon danced in their heads
And Mom in her bacon bra and I in my bacon tie
Had just settle down for a rerun of Bacon Live

When down from the kitchen there arose such a clatter
I could smell something cooking and hear the sizzle and splatter
Away to the stair well I flew like a flash
But had to go back because I forgot my pants

Back down the stairs my pants fastened tight
To check for possible home intrusion on this cold winter night
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear
But a man with pants made of bacon standing right here

He was frying up bacon so lively and quick
I thought for a moment, get out of my house you… um jerk
A variety of bacon products from his pockets they came
And he whistled and shouted and called them by name

Bacon salt, Bacon pop, Bacon jelly and jam
Bacon soap, Bacon beer, bacon found in a can
From the bottom of the floor to the top of the wall
Splatter away, splatter away, splatter away all

Then on to the plate the rashers they flew
Baconpants said I made some for you too
He was dressed all in bacon from his head to his feet
His bacon pants stained with bacon grease

His eyes, how they twinkled and his joy made them water
His cheeks were dark red, like hogs back from the slaughter
He had a bit of bacon held tight in his teeth
He chewed on it slightly and said have a seat

He spoke no more words, but went straight on to work
And filled up my plate, then turned with a jerk
Then he licked off his finger to get every last drop
Then out my back door with a skip and a hop

He sprung to his bio-diesel Dodge Neon , that ran on bacon fat
And peeled off down the road not looking back
But heard him exclaim as he drove out of sight
Happy Bacon Fest to all and to all a good night

Bacon LIVE: Non-Bacon Bacon Related News

Last night was the Christmas Bacon LIVE show. We had Christmas music, last second gift ideas, and Sean brought back a popular segment, Non-Bacon Bacon Related News.

The hour went by so fast this week that we didn’t get a chance to get to everything we wanted too. Maybe the new sound board is a little to distracting. All I know is I need some better sounds for it. Maybe next year.

Tune in next week to find out if we got any bacon goodies for Christmas. If you happen to get a few make sure to join us live in the chatroom and tell us about it! See you next week.

The Sticky Pig, Handmade Candied Bacon Review

When Tara Simon, aka Bacon Vixen, told me about her bacon candy (The Sticky Pig) I was excited to try some. Loving candied bacon, I wanted to see how someone called the Bacon Vixen could take it to the next level. Tara was nice enough to send me a few samples to try and review.

When the box arrived I quickly opened it and was greeted with four little pieces of art. A little confused, I closed the box and placed them in the fridge (Tara told me that’s what I was supposed to do). I wanted to try and eat one to see if they really were candy but I promised Sean I would save them to review on Bacon LIVE.

On the show, Sean and I ate each one and gave our thoughts on each of them. I was going to do the same thing with this written version of the review but decided to review the candies as a whole. Since the enjoyment of the different flavor combinations can be subjective (as seen on the live show). I wanted to review the quality and flavor of all the candies. If you want a flavor by flavor break down, just watch or listen to the Bacon LIVE review (starts at 30min).

Quality: You get a sense of the quality as soon as you see the box the candies come in and the candies themselves. The box was made of a thick cardboard that felt like it could be drop-kicked across the room and still look ok. It had a nice finish and the name The Sticky Pig was printed on it with a glossy black ink. It looked classy and expensive, which is a good thing since they are expensive candies!

The handmade candied bacon look like little pieces of art. When you go on Tara’s site and look at them you never expect that’s how they would look in real life, but they do! Honestly, they looked so good that you almost just wanted to save them and sit them out as decoration, but then you remember they’re made with candied bacon and all bets are off. You’re eating them!

It’s also worth noting that the bacon used to make the candied bacon is thick cut bacon that is lean and flavorful. I don’t know the brand, but I am sure Tara will let us know after she sees this review.

Flavor: Each candy had a great flavor and the candied bacon was not overpowering in any of the combinations. It seemed like each one enhanced the bacon flavor in a different way.

Even with some of the stranger combinations we tried you could tell what she was trying to do and was successful.

Overall: The Sticky Pig Candied Bacon is an amazing accomplishment. Tara the Bacon Vixen has turned bacon into a gourmet candy that anyone would love to receive as a gift. Chocolate-covered cherries for Valentine’s Day is dead! Long live candied bacon! They are a little pricey, which makes them perfect for gifts. I don’t know about you, but I would have trouble paying $15 for candy for myself.

If you forgot someone on your shopping list this year, Sticky Pig Candied Bacon would be a great way to make it up to them. By the time they finish the last bite they will forgive you.

Bacon LIVE: Bacon Candy and Book Reviews

Wow, I haven’t done a blog post since last the last Bacon LIVE! But don’t worry Sean and I talk about this on the show and it should take care of any concerns you have about Mr. Baconpants and the future of the show/blog. Its the holidays so things get a little crazy.

Speaking of holidays if you have a bacon lover on your shopping list you must watch/listen this show. Sean and I got to review two hot bacon items; bacon candy and a bacon book.

The candy was from The Sticky Pig. They were nice enough to send us a few samples to try out. Sean and I were both impressed with the presentation and flavor of the candy. If you looking to impress a lucky lady or guy this is a great gift to get. The candy look like little pieces of bacon art and there’re tasty too! I plan to do a full written review soon.

Our second review was for the Zingerman’s Guide to Better Bacon. Since Sean and I didn’t have a chance to read it yet this review was only skin deep. We just talked about the layout and look of the book. Once we get a chance to read it we will let you know what we truly think.

Make sure you tune in next week when Sean and I give you some super last minuet bacon lover gift ideas.
