Ever since I started this blog I have been kicking around that idea of getting a camcorder. You know, to video tape my adventures with bacon. What stopped me in the past was price and size. I knew that if the camcorder was big I would never take in anywhere. So I have been waiting for a cheap small camcorder for a while.
A few months ago a friend of mind showed me his new Flip Video Camera. The flip is a small tapeless camcorder that you can plug directly in to your computer to edit the videos. I know that last sentence sounds confusing, but trust me when I say this little thing is amazing and it’s also fewer than 200 bucks. My wait for a small cheap camcorder was now over!
Before I buy anything I read as many reviews as I can about it, so Goggled “Flip Ultra Video Reviewsâ€. After reading a few I came to the realization that this is indeed is a pretty decent product. But I still wasn’t stratified. You can never trust reviews because they could be writen by the companies that made the product. There had to be a better way to get real people views on the Flip.
Then I had an epiphany ( and yes I was eating bacon), check YouTube for video reviews. It’s a no brainer. I will see people’s reviews of it and also get to see the quality of the video it captures. I would have to say that most of the reviews are more entertaining and scary than informative. It always surprises me what people will upload for the world to see. But for the most part it helped me get a better idea if what the Flip could do.
In the end I decided that getting the Flip would be a good idea. I know there are some cons with it but the pros for me out way them. Once I buy one and use it for awhile, look for my own video review of it on YouTube.
Lastly, if you’re looking to buy something remember to check out YouTube. That way you get information about what real people think about the product and you will also be entertained.
You can buy the Flip Video Ultra Series Camcorder, 60-Minutes (White) from Amazon for $150.
Today is LEGO’s 50th Anniversary so I gave the Logo Man a tasty BLT. Check out Gizmodo.com to find an article about LEGO’s History. You will also find a neat graphic the shows you the LEGO Timeline. It’s amazing how this toy has stood the test of time. To this day kids are still playing with LEGO’s.
My favorite flavor of LEGO was LEGO Mindstorms, which is the LEGO set you can make robots with. It came with a little computer brain, and few touch and light sensors, and bunch of LEGO’s. I remember building bug-like robots that would run into walls and then back up and turn another direction. I felt like I was a god!
What was your favorite flavor of Lego’s and what did you build with them? Feel free to share via comment.
Here is a list of strange products I found that contain bacon. All the products listed are real and you can buy them at a store. There are some things that I did not put on this list because they were just people’s creations and were not commercially for sale. For example Chocolate Covered Bacon, Bacon Brownies, and Bacon Whiskey are not products for sale.
Strange Bacon Products:
Maple Bacon Coffee – This would be a great way to start the morning, without all the mess of cooking bacon. Bacon flavored coffee sounds amazing and strange at the same time.
Mo’s Bacon Bar – I just learned about this one yesterday and can’t wait to make a trip out to Whole Foods to pick one up. I bet it’s going to taste amazing!
Bacon Mints – I don’t know about you, but I think freshening your mouth with bacon is a bit strange.
Bacon Air Freshener – I love bacon but I think having my car smell like bacon would be strange, I would always be hungry for bacon.
Bacon Flavored Toothpicks – This sounds like a great idea, but I would always be tempted to eat the toothpick.
Bacon Beer – This brings my two favorite things together, bacon and beer. This is not that strange, I just wanted to put it on this list to tell the world about BACON BEER!
Bacon Water (Sadly for Dogs) – Man if this was for humans I bet everyone would be perfectly hydrated. Most people don’t drink water because they don’t like the taste (Does water have a taste?).
Bacon spray – This is the strangest one of all, a diet where you spray food flavored liquid in your mouth. I think this would just drive me crazy. Eating bacon is not just about the flavor it’s also about the crisp (or chewiness, if you like it that way).
If you ever find strange bacon themed or inspired products please let me know, thanks.

Lately I have been finding myself having writer’s block. I think it may have something to do with the winter months. Cold weather I find sucks the creativity right out of me. I am sure this happens to a lot of people so I thought I would share my list of methods of fighting off Bacon (writer’s) Block.
Find the Sun – Yes I know it’s cold outside, but get out there and find some sun. I find taking a walk in the sunshine brings back the creative feeling.
Eat some Brain Food (Bacon) – Eating you favorite food can sometimes get the creativity flowing. That’s how I got the idea for this post, I was eating Bacon!
Get Moving – Walking around or changing your environment can help spark new ideas. If you’re always working in your home office and have a laptop, move to a new room.
Make a List – Sometimes you can’t think of new ideas because you have too much on your mind. Making a list can sometimes help you get all the random things out of your head. But be careful this could backfire and because you could have more things to worry about.
Find Inspiration – A lot of time if I can’t think of something to post I will look for inspiration on other blogs. Sometimes the best ideas are ones that you steal (borrow) and improve.
Make Something – Use your hands and make something, getting away from the computer and TV does wonders for creativity.
Sing Loud – Put on your favorite music and sing along at the top of your lungs. Just make sure your neighbors are not home first. Depending on your singing abilities they may call the cops thinking you’re trying to kill someone or you have wild animals running amuck.
Back Away Slowly – The last thing I try when I can’t think of anything to write is to not write. You can’t force creativity so if you’re not feeling it do something else. On the days you are creative, make the most of it. Try to get a back log of ideas built up for days when you can’t think of any.
If you have any of your own methods for getting over writers block, feel free the share them in a comment.
This week’s review is of a personal favorite of mine, Penn Pilsner. It’s brewed right in my home town of Pittsburgh by the Pennsylvania Brewing Company. I never realized how much good beer PA had until I started reviewing beer.
The Pennsylvania Brewing Company was founded in 1986 by Tom Pastorius. He wanted to brew authentic German Beers. That means all beers are made in accordance with the German beer purity law called, Reinheitsgebot. Germans are serious about their beer.
Their flagship brand is Penn Pilsner, a Vienna-style lager that is based on the founder’s (Tom) favorite German Bier. It has a 5% ABV and comes in a brown bottle with a German style label on it.
Appearance (4/5): I love the color of this beer, it’s a dark rich yellow. The head is white and thick, but doesn’t hang around long. This beer looks good.
Smell (4/5): It smells a little like sweet corn, but it also has the crisp smell of alcohol. Its doesn’t have a overly hoppy smell.
Taste (4/5): It tastes just like it smells, sweet with a touch of hop bitterness. This makes it both enjoyable and refreshing to drink. It goes down smooth.
Mouth Feel (4/5): It looks lite but it does have some body to it. This is something I like; I don’t like beer that feels like water going down.
Drinkability (5/5): I would love to have a case of this on a cool summer day. It has a good light flavor with enough body to keep my mouth entertained.
Overall, I give this beer 4.5 out of 5 bacon strips. You can read other reviews about this beer at BeerAdvocate.com.
Feel free to comment with your own review of this beer. Also remember to check out my other reviews of Dominion Oak Barrel Stout and Yuengling Traditional Lager.
There is a story floating around on the internet about Steve Job being mean. I guess what happened was a blogger girl asked for a picture and he rudely told her no. This is understandable if you think about how many people asked for his picture and tried to talk to him at Macworld.
Also if you read the story about how it went down, the girl walked up to him while he was messing with his phone, then tapped him on the arm. This interrupted him with whatever he was doing so he was upset. I would be too. If she would have waited till he was done, he would have been more likely to take the picture. The man was most likely getting bugged all day and she was the person he took it out on.
Just because someone is famous does not mean they are required to be nice to everyone all the time. They have the right to refuse to take a picture with you and be upset when you interrupt them. Yes I agree he could have been a little nicer about the whole thing but he’s a mean person. And that is something that has been known for a long time. So this is nothing new. It’s like walking up to a dog knowing that it’s a biter. Then when it bites you asking, “Why did it bit me
