Why Nerf-Guns are not Allowed in the Office

This is a documentary about the great Nerf-Gun war that happened between the Sales and IT Departments. It was made by the guys at Runawaybox.com, check out their site for more crazy videos.

Web Comic Extravaganza

comic.jpg

The world of web comics has recently been a reawakened obsession for me. It all started with the blog CrunchGear posting a funny Penny Arcade comic about twitter. I used to read this comic when I was in “college”. I couldn’t believe it was still around, so I stated reading it again.

A few days later Matt Gondek of Echoflip writes a post that just says “Garfield minus Garfield … Google It”. So I did and found the funniest comic I have seen in a long time. The creator takes the old Garfield comic and Photoshops Garfield out. The effect is a really funny comic about a lonely schizophrenic bachelor. Don’t worry, Jim Davis approves of the comic.

Then soon after I was done reading through the archives of G-G, Dan B emailed me a web comic gem. I guess the creator of “xkcd” is a fan of bacon. The latest comic shows his health in relation to when he figures out how to cook bacon. I really enjoy this strip, the jokes are smart and funny. I will have to admit a few of them were over my head, but all in all it’s a good time.

So that’s where the web comic obsession ends for now. I think once I get some more free time I will search the internet for more. If you know any good ones please share.

Bacon is a Flickr Pro

flickrpro.jpg

Flickr has added a feature that made me want to pay for a pro account. Before, I saw no real reason to pay since I don’t do a lot of photography or upload a lot of it, but now they added video. So, having a clean (free of ads) place to post my short little video clips is worth the 24.95 a year.

With the new feature you can upload a 90 second video that is less then 150 MBs. That doesn’t sound like a lot but it’s enough for a short video snapshot. For example, my friend posted a video of everyone singing happy birthday at a party. Now a photo would have been ok but the video made the memory of that day a little more exciting. That’s the kind of stuff this new feature was meant for and 90 seconds is more then enough for that.

This is not a YouTube or Blip.tv replacement, it’s something different. Those services are for videos that are meant to be seen and entertain the masses. Flickr will be the home for all those random and short video clips people capture that are not meant for mass consumption.

So here is a quick recap of how I will use this video service. Blip.tv is the home for my polished and longer video content. Like the Bacon Eating Contest video. Flickr on the other hand will be for random clips that only I and maybe a few other people will enjoy. Like the video below, which I shot and uploaded via cell phone.

Let me know what you think about this new feature. I know that in the Flickr community there are mix feelings about it.

How Cheap Bacon is Made

This is how they make mass produced bacon. It’s not pretty but it does make pretty cheap food. If you would like to know how people make premium or homemade bacon check out this post at BS Brewing.

Zombies Love Bacon

zombiegame.jpg

If there was ever a Zombie attack I would be sure to protect my bacon. (pun intended) To train for that day I play the game Boxhead: The Zombie Wars. The graphics are simple but the game play is intense. You play a Boxhead survivor trying to fend off the Zombie hordes with hand guns, shotguns, and rocket launchers. To master this game you need to be able to rapidly mash your space bar, while you use the arrow keys to run around like a mad man.

Just like the last game I talked about this game is very addictive. I spent several hours playing this game in classic mode, then I found out there was a defense mode. In defense mode you have to construct a base with turrets and barricades. Then you don’t only have to kill Zombies, but you also have to maintain your base. You only have a few seconds in between waves so it gets a little crazy. I ended up enjoying defense mode more then classic. Let me know which one you like and what your highest score was.

Zombies Ate My Neighbors

Video Bacon

I was browsing on YouTube and I found this amazing video from a Mexican band called Doughnuts in November. The video is a classic zombie B-Movie with lots of blood and foul language. Enjoy!

Note: If you watch the video closely, I bet one of the Zombies will look familiar. ;)

Bacon Eating Contest

baconvid.jpg

Here is the video I took of the intense bacon eating contest at the first annual Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival. If for some unknown reason you don’t know what that is, I advise you to check out this recap right away.

This was the best part of the event. I can still remember it like it was yesterday. The smell of bacon, the roaring crowds (ohhhh bacon!), and the steady (some not so steady) eyes of the bacon Gladiators waiting to devour 3lbs of (cooked) bacon. It was a sight to see, I can’t wait till next year.

Desktop Tower Defense 1.5

bacondeskgame.jpg

Every once in a while I find a game that sucks the life right out of me. Well, a few weeks ago one of those games was Desktop Tower Defense 1.5. It’s a live action puzzle game where it’s your job to figure out how to kill the “creeps” before they get to the other side of the screen. To do that you buy and/or upgrade towers to shoot and kill the creeps. I know I am not doing this game justice, so you’re just going to have to play it to really understand what I’m talking about.

A word of warning, don’t give up too fast. This is an easy game to learn but a hard game to master. That’s why it can really suck the life out of you. The first time I played this, I started it a 11pm and didn’t stop playing till 3am. The last time something like that happened it was when I got Sim City 2000 many years ago.

Let me know what you think about this game and how much time you wasted playing it. I would also like to know what games you waste time playing on any platform.

Music for the Next iPod Commercial

Video Bacon

Will this be the next hit song to come out of an iPod commercial? I don’t think so, but this song is still amusing. The reason I posted this video was because I was amazed how far this video traveled to get to my blog.

Here is what I am talking about:
The video was uploaded on YouTube. Then a blog (neuerdings) written in a language I can’t read, posted an article about the video. Soon after that a blog called Swiss Miss posted the video with a link to the GarageBand file. The chain continues when a lazy blogger at code77 just posts the video with no explanation. Thank god the bloggers at Cruchgear know whats up and post the video with some text along with it. After that I read the post in my feed reader, which bring us to the end of this video’s adventure to the land of bacon.

I may be the only one that finds this interesting, but I wanted to share. I think it’s amazing how fast and far content can travel once it goes viral on the internet.

On a Road Trip, Pack Plenty of Bacon

gamebacon.jpg

On Friday I posted about a game I found that put a new twist on the classic Missile Command. Well today on Crunch Gear I read a story about someone putting a modern twist on the classic Oregon Trial. It’s nice to know I am not the only one that enjoys this kind of stuff.

The game is called Thule Trail and it’s about a road trip starting in the Windy City and ending in Santa Barbara. The reason your going on the road trip is to enjoy some kind of music festival. The game play is just like the original but everything updated to modern times. You don’t have a covered wagon you drive a car, you shop at mini marts, and you snowboard.

I have yet to play it all the way through, but from what I can see so far it’s enjoyable. I had one of the people in the car roll their arm in the window and I lost an hour on the trip. Someone else got dysentery from drinking too much creek water (Does this happen on road trips?). You can also enter a snowboard competition in the game to make some extra money. It’s really hard to control some if the mini games so be careful. You may lose time and money if you play them. That’s about as far as I got into the game. Once I get some more free time I plan on trying to play this game all the way though.

If you beat the game leave a comment with your score. That way when I get time I can try to beat it. Also if you have any funny road trip stories you can share them too.
