On last night’s show Sean and I finally got the intro song right. It only took two weeks for Sean to finally get the extension for his head phones (which is really nice by the way).
We started off the show talking about Mrs. Dash, which has nothing to do with bacon. In fact I think this was our most bacon free show in a while. We will have to fix that next week. We also talked about Cinco Da Mayo and Sean shared a recipe for refried beans with bacon.
Tune in next week to hear about Sean’s terrible bacon experiences and how it almost made him never eat bacon again, and how Jim Norton came to the rescue.
It’s Mother’s Day this weekend and if you are like me you’re most likely scrambling around wondering if you should send her flowers again. Well I am here to help. I don’t know why I didn’t think about this last year but give your mom what she really wants: bacon.
Here are a few ways you can give her the gift of bacon:
Bacon Bouquet – This is probably the most creative way to give your mom bacon. Your mom will love the fact that you made it yourself and instead of just watching her flowers die, she gets to eat them. It’s a Win-Win!
Bacon Candy – If your mom has a sweet tooth you might want to check out the Mo’s Bacon Bar. Yes it’s an expensive candy bar but your mom is worth it. If you’re cheap, you could always just buy a Hersey’s bar and stick a piece of cooked bacon on top of it.
Cook her Breakfast – I think any mom would love to have their kid come over on a Sunday morning and cook them breakfast. Make sure you use Maple Bacon so her house will smell like bacon for at least a week.
Bacon Coffee – If breakfast is too much for you to handle then the least you can do is bring her a cup of Boca Java’s Maple Bacon Morning Coffee. It’s amazing and like the maple bacon, the smell will stick around all day.
Bacon Explosion – Invite mom over the house for dinner and make her a Bacon Explosion. She will be impressed with your grilling skills and will be happy to know you are capable of cooking for yourself.
Those are just a few things you could do for mom on Mother’s Day. The fact of the matter is anything you do for her she will love. Moms have a hard time not like something their kid made for them.
If you plan on doing something for you mom that involves bacon feel free to share it with us. We love hearing about other people’s stories with bacon.
Two weeks in a row Sean and I have had trouble with the beginning of the show. Luckily both times the problem was headphones, so hopefully next week we have it fixed. The moral of the story is don’t buy headphones at a discount store.
We started off the show talking about a post that Sean wrote about a ban on salt in processed foods. You will be able to read the post tomorrow morning. We then moved on to less depressing things like bacon art and novelties.
We also had a special Robot appearance, not sure where he came from but he may be back next week to help us out with the intro. Who knows?
If you’re an avid reader of my blog you will quickly realize that I love bacon and good beer. This is why I got excited when I saw a blog post on “Theories of Bacon†about a Bacon Pint Glass. When I checked out the Etsy link I also noticed they make a Pig Butcher Diagram Pint Glass!
The glasses are made by Beth B., who loves the act of making things and I guess bacon. She sandblasted the images onto the pint glass, which means it should never fade or wear away. You can buy them from her Etsy store and if you buy more than one she will even give you a better price on shipping (which is kind of high).
Like most bacon related crafts the price is a little high at $10 per glass. But where else are you going to find a bacon pint glass? Also, depending on the quality of the glass the price could be justified.
Next pay I may order a set of these to enjoy my favorite IPA out of this summer. I wonder if I buy 3 of each if I could get a bulk discount?
On last night’s show Sean brought new headphones but failed to notice that the cord was insanely short. This cause us to be a little off when we sang the opening intro (Sean couldn’t hear it). We hope to have this problem fix before next week.
On the show we talked about a lot of amazing things. To get the full effect you should just start watching it right now and stop reading this. But just in case you’re lazy, and like to buy pre-made pancake mix, I will go on. We talked about having a twitter war, brown sugar bacon, pig stink island, ghost, Applebees, and butter. Sean also recapped his KFC Double Down experience and said the meal was good but not worth the price.
Be sure to tune in next week when Sean reveals the secret topic that we didn’t get to. He told me what it was at the end of the show and it’s crazy! I don’t even know if I could talk about.
Old school advertising was the best. If I could find a full size print of the above ad it would be on my wall in a heartbeat. I love it for a few reasons. First, Iowa is proudly represented in the ad (home of the best bacon). Second, there’s bacon. Lastly, it features pancakes, bacon’s best partner in crime.
I found this gem on Reddit, the site that loves bacon anything, and I noticed that one of the commenters made a profound statement, “%&#@ chicken and waffles, I want bacon and pancakesâ€.
That guy just hit the nail on the head. Why don’t I see more places serving bacon and pancakes, where the bacon is in the pancake? I understand that chicken and waffles is some kind of breakfast/dinner dish created by the Pennsylvania Dutch, the people the brought us Scrapple. But why is it more popular than what’s featured in the ad above? I have eaten bacon and pancakes for dinner before. Also, why didn’t my mom not make that when I was kid? And why is the Grand Slam at Denny’s missing these?
I have so many questions that will never be answered. Luckily there is a recipe online so you can make them at home. Maybe we can’t fix the wrong that history has giving us and make Bacon in pancakes (yes I just dropped the “and†in favor of “inâ€) the most popular breakfast/dinner combo ever! Who’s with me?
When Bacon Unwrapped posted this video a few months ago I thought, “Oh hey, I need to watch thatâ€, but somehow I forgot about it till just now. The video is titled “Makin’ Bacon†and it’s about two bros cooking bacon and being insensitive to their roommate’s dietary restriction. I am sure we have all been there before.
Directed by Mike Robertson & Arlen Konopaki | Written by Arlen Konopaki, Mike Robertson & Joe Vanderhelm | Starring Jamie Cavanagh, Arlen Konopaki and Joe Vanderhelm.
The video did make me laugh and I honestly didn’t expect what happened in the video. I don’t want to spoil it for you so just watch it and let us know what you think about it. I really think it’s the best bacon comedy short so for in 2010. The year is still young, but this one could be a tough one to beat.
