The Great Sugardale Bac-On Travels to the Ohio State Fair
The Bac-On is back! Sugardale is once again looking for the Grand Bacon Master. All you have to do is enter you recipe for a chance to cook in front of thousands of people at the Ohio State Fair! Then if you wow the judgers you could win $3,000!
Last year I was a guest judge at the Bac-On event in Pittsburgh. I had a great time and I was really impressed with the level of cooking that went on at the event. I was also impressed that Sugardale ran it like a real TV show. If I didn’t know better I would have thought it was a show for the Food Network.
Check out the press release bellow for all the details. You still have some time to submit a recipe.

Sugardale Foods announces plan to hold The Great Sugardale BAC-ON at the Ohio State Fair in 2011. This year the best bacon dishes will cook-off in front of thousands of people on Saturday, July 30th in Columbus, Ohio.
Bacon-lovers are invited to enter their original bacon recipes in one of three categories: Appetizer/Sides/Entertaining, Ready Bacon®, and Main Dish. Visit www.greatsugardalebacon.com to enter your recipe in the contest and view last year’s winning recipes. Each category will be narrowed down to three finalists that will compete live at the Ohio State Fair. Category winners will receive $500 and a year’s supply of Sugardale bacon. The category winners will then compete in a final round for the chance to win $3,000 and the title of “Grand BAC-ON Champion”.
The Ohio State Fair will host The Great Sugardale BAC-ON at the Main Street Stage starting at 10:00 a.m. with the final round competition beginning at 1:00 p.m. Sugardale Foods will also showcase the new Taste of Sugardale mobile kitchen at the event. The Taste of Sugardale will feature cooking demonstrations, distribute coupons and provide free samples of Sugardale products throughout the day.
Last year the title of “Grand BAC-ON Champion” went to Olga Watkins, a Pittsburgh native. Her Bacon and Blueberry Salad wowed the judges, which included TopChef contestant Spike Mendelsohn and Food Network’s Claire Robinson. Ready Bacon® finalist from the 2010 Great Sugardale BAC-ON, Dee G., reflected on her experience. “I had a blast! That was my first cook-off and it was a wonderful experience. Everyone there was just so nice! I am glad I came, it was great! …I am already creating new dishes for next year, hoping to make it to the finals again!”
