So I was browsing the internet looking at creative Halloween costumes on my lunch today, when I found this gem. A guy dressed up like a YouTube video.

It reminded me of those hipsters that dressed up like iPod commercials a few years ago.
Happy Bacon Sizzling Halloween!
That’s right! The New Mac OS has only been out for a few days and its already hacked so it can be installed on almost any computer. If you read this post it will tell you how you can do it in three steps.
I don’t understand why Apple wouldn’t release their OS to everyone on a PC or Mac system. If they did do it, just think how fast Apple would take over the market. The main reason people switch is because of the great operation system. Don’t get me wrong, the hardware is great too but that is just part of it.
But maybe I just answered my own question. The main reason Apple wouldn’t release it to all PCs is because they make more money off of people also buying the hardware too, not just the OS. Or, would they make more money selling the OS to Mac and PC users? I am sure they have their reasons but in the meantime it’s nice to know if you really wanted to, you could install OS X on that crappy Dell you have sitting around.
When I first heard about Uncle Oinker’s Bacon Mints I knew I had to try one. The thought of the smoky flavor of bacon and the hint of mint made my mouth water. But sadly when I finely tasted this combination I was disappointed.

At first the bacon flavor hits you, followed quickly with the mint flavor. This part is not bad, but then after the mint is gone you are left with a strange bacon after taste. If they could only make the mint flavor last longer than the bacon flavor, these mints would be refreshing.
There is a bright side to this review. Since the bacon flavor lasts so long, this might be a good option to use when you’re eating and need a little bacon flavor. For example, if you’re at a restaurant and they don’t offer a burger with bacon (which is blasphemy). You could eat a bacon mint first, so while you’re eating the burger you can enjoy the sweet taste of bacon.
Here is what a few other people said after I talked them into trying a Bacon Mint:
Alexis - “Wow, they’re definitely bacony”!
Rich - “Man, that’s strange… where did you get those”?
Jen - “Looks aren’t everything, particularly when it comes to meat-flavored mints. I was lured in by the cheerful pig on the front of the Savory Bacon Mints tin. My anticipation quickly turned to dismay upon biting into a mint. The smoky-minty-plastic-like taste made me run for an Altoid.”
Lisa – “Upon opening the decorative tin (which could be repurposed into a snazzy paperclip holder), I was greeted by the vaguely minty yet smoky aroma. Kind of like if you threw Tic-Tacs into a campfire. And then I popped a single mint into my mouth.
My taste buds erupted with the strong smoky flavor, which then gave way to hints of mint. And then it just tasted like pig basted with a Scope marinade. Not bad, but not exactly refreshing. “
If you tried these before, feel free to comment with your thought about them. If you want to buy a tin, support my sponsors by buying them from Merch-Bot.com. Thanks!
The Sonic Drive-In has only been open for a few weeks in Pittsburgh and I already found a good reason to go. It seems that Sonic has a limited time menu item called, the Extra-Long Bacon Cheddar Cheesesteak, wow that’s a mouth full. The sandwich is a meat-lover’s dream with steak and crispy bacon, smothered in cheddar cheese with grilled onions and mayonnaise.

I bet this will be amazing with tots and one of their many fruity drink options. I have not been to the Pittsburgh location yet, I figured I would wait until the rush was over. I hope they have this, if not I will just have to get one of their other bacontastic items.
The Xbox 360 has been out for about two years now and it took Halo 3 to come out for people to want one. I read an article that called the game, “the godsend the Xbox needed”. I couldn’t agree more. It wasn’t until this game came out that I really thought about getting one. Sadly, I really don’t have the money to spend, maybe after the Holidays.
Anyway, this got me thinking. Microsoft loves to make money and since Halo proved that it alone could sell the consoles they might try something sneaky. The Xbox 360 came out in 2005 so I have a sinking feeling that they’re going to come out with a new one in late 2008 or 2009. Think about it, they tell the world they’re going to make Halo 4, but only for their new Xbox 1080. Then when it comes out they will be confidant that people will buy the new console to play it. This would make their new system an instant hit.
I may be wrong about this and the 360 will still be around until 2010. But I bet they thought about it once or twice. You can read the full article I referred to on thestreet.com.
So I was reading Bacon Unwrapped and saw that Heather interviewed James Villas, renowned author of numerous cookbooks and food-related essays. It seems that this guy wrote a whole cook book about bacon called The Bacon Cookbook. The book contains over 150 recipes for enjoying bacon!
I wish I would have found this guy first, but Heather beat me too it. Go to her website to read the short interview she did with him. My favorite question was, “When eating a piece of bacon on its own, which do you prefer – crispy or chewy”?
At the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco, Bruce Chizen the Adobe Chief Executive answered few questions about their new web endeavors. I feel the questions were brought up because Adobe recently acquired Buzzword, an online word processor. They are also planning to release web versions of Photoshop and Premier. Chizen said that the transition will take 10 years to complete.
This seems to be the growing trend with software companies, but none of them can figure out how to make money. Some say that they’re going to use ad revenue and others will charge a monthly fee. I am not sure how I feel about using an online only application to do work. What if I don’t have internet, or what if my service provider bottle necks? These are things that I can’t control, but when I run software on my own machine I have a greater control over it working or not.
I think the desktop app is going to stay around a lot longer the then ten years. I do like that there will be online version of the desktop apps, which would mean I could use Photoshop on any computer. I think the direction it should go is you have online and desktop versions that sync together. That way when you are in the office or at home you can use it locally. Then when you’re at an airport and the boss says, “Make the logo bigger”, you can fire up your laptop and open the online version and edit it. That would streamline how people do business.
