100% Bacon-Made Bacon Burger

My friend Rachel from Sum of David sent me an email about the most amazing thing, the 100% made from bacon Bacon burger.

Bacon Burger

You have to check out this link. They show you step by step how they make this thing. It’s funny how when it’s done cooking you have to use a paper towel to soak up some of the grease. This puts the Wendy’s Baconator to shame.

PodCamp Pittsburgh 2.0

I missed the first PodCamp because I was on a trip for work, but this time I get to go. I purposely kept this weekend free just for this event. Everyone one told me how great the last one was so I hope it meets my expectations.

To kick off PodCamp they are having an icebreaker this Friday from 6pm to 8pm. Its going to be at the First Floor Gallery in the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. The email I got about it said there is going to be free food, I wonder if there will be bacon!

If you don’t know what PodCamp is, think of it as a big free nerd/geek convention all about new media and the internet. You can find out more at their website, www.podcamppittsburgh.com. If you know someone who would like to come let them know, the more people there the better it will be.

I will most likely be posting updates while I am at PodCamp this weekend, in true geek blogging fashion!

The Harris Grill Will Be Missed

Saturday night around 10pm there was a three alarm fire in Pittsburgh, and it took out one of my all-time favorite places, The Harris Grill in Shadyside. You can read it for yourself in the Trib here. The Harris Grill used to have FREE Bacon night every Tuesday night. I wrote a story about it along time ago, you can read it here.

The owners say they are going to rebuild which I think is a great idea. In the meantime I hope another local bar starts offering up free bacon. I am not saying I want a replacement bacon night, because nothing will ever compare to Harris Grill, but free bacon would make the pain easier.

I was going to go to bacon night last week but had to cancel. Now I wish I did because it would have been the last bacon night, ever!

Five Blogs That You Need To Read, Everyday

Recently, I am starting to notice that I read a lot of blogs and a few of them everyday, so I decided to think about why. Maybe if I figure out why I keep coming back to them, I can get people to keep coming back to mine too. To keep this post short I am only going to pick out five of the blogs I visit on a daily basis.

Bacon Unwrapped – I read this blog because it’s on a topic I like. They are not very consistent with updates, but when they do I usually enjoy it. So I make sure to hit this one once every morning.

Tech Crunch – I love this website! It updates a few times a day so I check in the morning and right before I leave work. It talks about all the new startups that are popping up and also keeps you updated on the old ones, too. If you want to be the first to know about all the hot new websites, you need to add this blog to your must read list.

Bacon Show – What can I say? I love bacon and this website features a bacon recipe everyday, forever. I rarely try to make any of the recipes I find on this site. I just find it entertaining to see how people use bacon in different types of food.

Pro Blogger – Recently I haven’t been a big fan of the content, it just looks like the same information being posted over and over again. I may not read the site everyday but I do check it, just to see if anything exciting is there. Sometime this guy writes the most informative posts about advertising and affiliate linking, and I would hate to miss one of those. He also posts answers to common noob blogger questions. So if you’re new to blogging then you need to read this.

John Chow – This is the blog that inspired me to try and make money online. I read it everyday, but just like Pro Blogger I am finding the content starting to get stale. It’s just the same topics over and over again. But when he does write a great post you would not want to miss it, so I still hit the site up at least once a day.

It seems that the sites that I keep coming back to are the ones with great or once great content. Also, if they update more then once a day that lures me back. There is a bunch of other blogs I read at least twice a week and it’s also for the same reason.

If you notice I didn’t mention anything about design. That’s because design is only the second thing I look at, content is always first. Even if a blog’s design is bad (like Bacon Show’s) I will still go back to it if the content wins me over. In conclusion, it looks like content is the key ingredient to getting and retaining readers.

Vanity and Annoying Drivers

On my way to work today I saw one of my “Nine Types of Annoying Drivers”, the Slow Poke. They were driving under the speed limit while using the rearview mirror as a vanity mirror. So they couldn’t see the train of traffic following them.

After a few hundred feet the rearview must have not been enough, so they pull down the sun visor and use that mirror too. So now they have a wider view of their big stupid head. Now they are looking from one mirror to the other, while constantly picking at their head, which is causing them to drive slower than before.

Listen! You don’t have to impress anyone at work. It’s work, not a fashion show. If you are putting that much time in to what you look like in your car, maybe you should wake up a little earlier. I work at a woman-dominated work place and I can honestly tell you I really don’t care what they look like.

This brings me to another point. Why do women care so much about what other women think about their looks? I don’t wake up in the morning and think, “Man, I wonder if the guys are going to love this shirt I’m wearing” or “I hope Steve and his friends like my new haircut”. But I am a guy and could care less about what other people think about me.

I just don’t understand it. If you care that much about your looks then do it at home, not when you’re driving. You are making other people late for work for the sake of your vanity.

Atlas Shrugged, My All Time Favorite Book

At work today I get an email asking me the question, “What is your all time favorite book and why”? It’s for an employee only newsletter that is sent out bi-monthly, so I didn’t want too spend much time on it. But man, what a hard question, how do you just pick one book?

After staring at my computer screen for a few minutes it hit me, Atlas Shrugged. This would have to be my all-time favorite, since it affected my life so much. The following is what I wrote for the newsletter:

My favorite book of all-time would have to be Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. The characters in the book are so memorable, if you talk to me long enough you will hear me make references to them all the time. If you have to know, Hank Rearden was my favorite character, followed closely by Francisco d’Anconia. The book has a lot of great action and drama, with just the right amount of romance and mystery to keep things interesting. I am going to have to stop myself here, I was about to dive in to the whole plot, but I am going to have to let you read this book for yourself. Since talking about it might spoil some key plot twists. If you want to learn more about this book and Ayn Rand you can find all the information you need at AynRand.org.

Do you like how I end it with a web link? What a nerd thing to do. I was going to end it with a shameless self plug to my own website on Objectivism, (TalkObjectivism.com). But then I figured I shouldn’t, having people at work know your political opinions I found is not a good idea.

While trying to find the correct spelling of the names of the characters I referenced, I found a great website, CliffsNotes.com. Now I know what your thinking, “Come on Mosley! You didn’t know about Cliffs Notes”? Well the answer to that question is yes I did know about the notes, I just didn’t know that they gave them away for free online.

It was a lot of fun reading through this and learning about the deep meanings of all the characters and key plot points. This makes me want to read this book again. There was so much I missed the first time.

Making Money in July

This is my favorite post of the month; the “how much money did I make” post. I never would have imagined I could make money off a personal blog about my life and my love of bacon. Now that I am truly making money online, I love to show it off. ;)

I think as I start making more money, I am going to invest it back into this blog. For example, I am going to hold a monthly contest where the winner will receive a package of bacon (I just need to think if a good contest). I may also buy a video camera and start making mini bacon movies, but that will have to wait tell I make 300 in one month. If you can think of any creative ways to use the money to improve this blog please share them.

I know you’re all dieing to know how much money I made this month, so I will bore you no longer. Before I show you the numbers, I have to disclose something. I am not allowed to mention two networks that I generate money from, so I will list them as “Other Income”. Please do not ask me what the networks are because I really can’t tell you. If you are smart and are an avid read of this blog you may be able to figure out what one of the networks are.

Google AdSense - $14.53
TalkShoe.com - $21.87
Buy Me a Beer - $2.00 (Thank you Angela! – BostonBrat.net)
Other Income - $15.95
———————————
Total = 54.35

If you look at last months post, you will see that I made $15.29 more this month. If I keep this upward trend going maybe I can live the same dream the guy at OneMansGoal.com is trying to achieve.

They still have a lot of blogs that need writers, so if this sounds like something you would want to be a part of check out their site. If you sign up tell them Jason Mosley sent you. Here is the Press Release for you to read.
