Apple’s Movie Rental Idea
Apple is coming out with a new movie rental service that is 100% web based. That means you don’t have to wait for you movies to come in the mail or run to the store and pick them up. At first I was excited about this, but after reading an article about it on Forbes.com, that changed. Here is the import part of the article.
“The upcoming video on demand service would allow users to download movies for $2.99 and keep them for 30 days with the option to transfer the movie to one other player, such as the iPod, according to a report in the Financial Times. “ – Forbes.com
So it looks like its going to cost you 2.99 per movie rental. Now that might be a good price to new release, but what about older movies. I can rent them at Family Video for a $1 for 5 days and that’s plenty of time to watch them. I don’t need 30 days. I can’t see paying 2.99 for an older movie.
As of right now they only have two companies willing to offer there movies on the service. I hope they offer older classics and maybe some independent films too. I could see Apple only having the mainstream movies, and that would be sad.
I think this is a really good idea, but I just hope they get it right.
