Unprotected Music in iTunes

I think I am one of the few people that did not jump on the iTunes band wagon. The main reason was, I didn’t like the fact that the music you buy on iTunes can only be played on an iPod and you have to logon to iTunes to play it on another computer. That can be tricky if you plan on playing your music on a machine that doesn’t have network access.

I understand what they were trying to make the major labels happy by over protecting there music. But it limited the consumer and the people that were going to steal away are unaffected. That’s why I went to eMusic to get my music. They allow you to download unprotected mp3’s that you can play on just about anything. The only drawback is that most major labels would not support them because they are afraid of losing control of the music if it had no copyright protection. This may soon change.

Apple has heard the cries of people like me and they are now trying to push the major labels in allowing them to sale unprotected tracks. In this article on CNN you can find out how Jobs is using the popularity of the iPod and iTunes to pressure the Labels in to giving in. And it’s working! One label has already agreed to allow Apple to start selling unprotected tracks.

This is why a free-market is great. You have the consumers demanding change and a business backing them up. Because it’s in the business’s best interest to make us happy even if that means standing up to a giant. Consumers have the power to change the market and we need to understand that.

My Blog Can Make Money!

Last month I wrote a review for JohnChow.com and asked the question, “Can my blog make money?” I wanted to see if John’s tips could work for a “real” personal blog to make money. April is now over and I have the results.

Kontrea = $1.07
Adsense = $3.34
Talkshoe = $24.34
Text Link Ads = $0.00
Review Me = $0.00
Affiliate Networks = $0.00
TOTAL: $28.75

I know the numbers are low but it’s a start. It also seems that my podcast on talkshoe is more popular than my blog. To get to the point, yes, if you use the tips on JohnChow.com you can make money online. But to make the big bucks you need great content and traffic. I think I am getting more of both of those every day.

Ever since I started my marketing campaign for this blog I have been getting a lot of great feedback and readers. I will try the same tips this month to see if I can make even more money and gain more readership. I think the only thing holding me back now is traffic and exposure.

Blogging: Who Needs It?

As most of you know I have been studying Objectivism more and more. I even have a podcast about it now. Well, I noticed that my humorous post and my serious post were conflicting with each other. I would have a post about bacon followed by a post about the War on Individualism. So I thought that I better start a new blog to keep these ideas separated.

The new blog is called, talkObjectivism.com and it will be where all my objectivism-related content will go. Don’t worry, I will still post here almost every day and since objectivism is the philosophy I live my life by, you will still see a few related posts slip in from time to time. I will also offer podcasts on both sites. I think the new blog will help me write more focused posts on the subject and get more involved.

In closing, if you read this blog for my funny and sometimes serious insights on objectivism, please add talkObjectivism.com to your favorites. It’s hard getting reads, so I hope that some of you will be fans of the new blog. I also forgot to mention that the Co-Host (Brandon) from the podcast will also be posting on the new site too.

Enjoy!

Quad-Bacon Burger w/ Penn and Teller

What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas, so I really can’t get into too much detail about what I did there. Don’t worry, I was there for work, so I never got out of hand. I am really just using the slogan as an excuse, because I am lazy and don’t really feel like telling everyone all the details. So I am just going to go over the two big events of the trip.

The first big event was going to the Penn and Teller show at the Rio. The show was funny and political (Libertarian) at the same time. I am not going to give away any part of their show; you will have to see it for yourself.

Now you may think that just seeing the Penn and Teller show is enough to make any night a great night, but there is more. After the show, Penn and Teller ran into the crowd and out the back doors. The thought popped into my head, “Are they really going to be out there when I leave?” The answer was, yes!

Once I realized who the crowd was forming around, I started elbowing and pushing little kids and older fans that were smaller than me out of my way. When I finally reached the front, I handed my ticket to Teller and said, “Um… can you sign this?”

That’s when I spotted the next crowd, this one a little bigger than the first. “Penn” I thought! This time I didn’t care who you were, I was knocking you out of my way. Nothing was going to keep me from meeting literally the biggest libertarian I know. When I finally reached the front of the crowd, I stated, “I love your show Bullshit!” He smiled, grabbed my ticket and me, and said, “What camera should I look at?” Since I was lame and didn’t have my camera, Jen was nice enough to let me make a cameo in her pictures.

That was a great night, and I thought that nothing was going to be able to top it! But then I found out about the “Burger Bar.” It’s a place where you can create your own burger creation with its long list of toppings. As soon as I got there I scanned the list for bacon. To my surprise, they had four kinds of bacon: regular, peppered, jalapeño, and cinnamon. I knew I had to get all four and a nice slice of provolone to top it all off. It was bacon heaven.

Well, that’s all the life-changing stuff that happened on my trip. I did eat a lot of great food, saw a lot of casinos, and gambled (lost $50). But nothing topped my quad-bacon burger and Penn and Teller. I can’t wait to go back sometime when I don’t have to work. I know there was a lot I missed.
