Glazed Meatloaf with Bacon

Here is the weekly Bacon Recipe. I never cook any of this stuff so if you do let me know how it taste. I just assume since it has bacon in it, it must be amazing. Just looking at the picture makes my mouth water.

Glazed Meatloaf

Ingredients:
1 pound ground beef
1/2 pound ground pork sausage
1/2 cup chopped yellow onion
1/2 cup chopped red bell pepper
1/2 cup finely crushed saltines (about 10)
1 large egg, lightly beaten
1/2 cup whole milk
1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
3 bacon strips, precooked for 1 minute (see Note)
Parsley sprigs for garnish

Chili Glaze:
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1/2 cup red chili sauce
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
In a small bowl, mix together all the ingredients. Makes about 1/2 cup.

Directions:
Preheat the oven to 350°F. In a large bowl, combine all the ingredients except the glaze, bacon, and parsley and mix well. Turn the mixture into a lightly sprayed or oiled 9-by-5-inch loaf pan and gently pat down. Spread the glaze on top of the loaf and arrange the bacon strips neatly to cover. Bake until the loaf is firm and the bacon is crisp, about 1 Hour. Let stand in the pan for 5 to 10 minutes before serving. Remove the loaf from the pan and transfer to a platter. Garnish with the parsley sprigs.

NOTE: To slightly precook the bacon, place the strips on a paper plate lined with a paper towel and place another paper towel on top. Microwave for about 1 minute to remove excess fat.

AOHell is dead, Meebo Lives!

Last week I was chatting with a friend on AOHell Instant Messenger and as usual I was having problems. After it logged me out for the 5th time my friend suggested that I use a site called Meebo. I asked him if it was another one of those bug ridden all in one chat programs. He informed me that it was not just an “all-in-one”, but a web based chat client that is more stable then AOHells downloaded program.

Here is what Meebo say about there product:

Meebo is a web based IM that lets you log into your IM networks from any computer with a browser and internet connection with no firewall issues. It employs technologies (like AJAX) to make it act more like a desktop application, which dramatically improves usability. Many users enjoy the benefits of a native DHTML application, as it does not consume as many system resources…

Since it is web based and I don’t have to install anything I thought I would give it a try. Wow it was love at first IM. It worked just like any other chat client but more. That’s right there is more! You can place a Chat window on any website so people can IM you. So if you have a blog your readers (if you’re online) can talk to you right from your webpage. You are going to have to see in action to believe it.

I don’t think I will use it on this site, but I will for Pagewaiter.com, my hosting company. Now I can give support to my customers live right on the site. Also if someone is about to sign up and has questions I can take care of them before they leave and I lose a sale.

They are always updating the service. If you tried this in the past and didn’t like it, check it out again. If you are like me and never heard of it before give it a try. Like I said you will fall in love at first IM.

My Blog has Audio Commentary

I know everyone has heard of a DVD commentary, where the writers and directors talk over the movie and give you an inside view; well I thought that I could do that for a blog. The reason I thought of this was because I noticed that most podcast were about technology or Star Wars. The only good one I found was Shinyfire Radio and I don’t think that should count since I am one of the hosts. So I wanted to think of an original idea for a podcast, something that would be easy to produce and fun to do.

The first thing that came to mind was, just talk about what I posted on my blog every Sunday and recorded it live a Talkshoe.com. Then I realized if I did do that, it would be a blog commentary.

I know people out there are going to think I really take myself and this podcast seriously. Well I don’t, the commentary is suppose to be fun, and poke fun at all the podcast clichés and shameless self-promotion that people do on sites like MySpace and YouTube. If people can post 300 pictures of themselves on their MySpace or post a video of them lip singing to a stupid pop song on YouTube, I can have a podcast about my own blog!

Lastly if you would like to do a guest commentary for my blog just send me an email with the recorded file or join in live on Sundays at Talkshoe.com.

Beat Beat Beat

Ever since I got my eMusic account I have been finding good bands left and right. I only have the 30 downloads a month plan and I usually use them up the first day I get them. If you don’t know what eMusic is you better just go to there site and find out.

Q: What is eMusic?
A: eMusic is among the top digital music services, selling millions of downloads each month and offering a diverse catalog of over 2 million tracks from established and emerging artists in every genre from the world’s top independent labels. Unlike other services that restrict what you can do with your music, eMusic allows members complete flexibility to burn CDs, transfer to MP3 devices and make multiple copies for personal use. eMusic subscription plans are also extremely affordable, with per track costs that are a fraction of what you’d pay for music on other major digital music stores.” – eMusic.com (aff)

Every week I am going to review a band I find in the site. The first is going to be a band called “Beat Beat Beat”.

Living In The Future

Beat Beat Beat

Living In The Future

I will be honest here, the main reason I listened to this band was the name. How can you pass up a band that uses one word three times in its name?

Here is was All Music Guide had to say about them:

“Beat Beat Beat may have been playing the clever irony card when they named their debut album Living in the Future, because this band sounds as if they’re desperately trying to turn the clock back to 1977… Don’t think that’s a criticism, though — Beat Beat Beat have the goods, and play with the kind of energy, snotty attitude and fast/loud tunefulness that would make their leather-jacketed forefathers proud.” – AllMusic.com

That’s pretty amazing statement, but after listening to the band I realized that it was defiantly a fan that wrote the review. Don’t get me wrong they are a good band, but I wouldn’t say they would make the forefathers of punk proud. The CD is boring. It’s the same hooks and riffs that the forefathers already played out 20 year ago. I was hoping with a name like Beat Beat Beat that they would bring something new to the table that would mix well with the old. Also the recoding itself could have been a little better. If you listen you can hear more then a few missed notes (Why would you leave those in a recording?). Also, something about the mix is off; maybe it’s the vocals getting lost in sea of fuzzy guitars or the almost inaudible bass drum.

The CD is not a total loss there are a few good songs worth downloading. “Don’t Tell Me Now” is one that you can sing along to the first time you hear is. So in my book that makes it an instant classic. Lastly I think “Hate Me” is not that bad, it just sounds like a lot of other good punk/rock songs. If you listen closely it kind of has a Misfits sound to it.

If you’re looking for a CD to play on a road trip and sing along too then this is for you. But keep in mind the replay value of this CD is low since it was not recorded that well and the hooks and vocals are kind of weak.

This band gets two out of five Bacon strips.

Inspired to Flash

A few days ago is found a site that inspired me to start creating flash games again, it’s called Kongregate. It’s like a MySpace for game lovers and developers. Here is what they have to say about themselves:

“Founded in 2006 and currently in a state of heavy development, Kongregate seeks to create the leading online hub for players and game developers to meet up, play games, and operate together as a community.”

They have weekly and monthly contest were you can win cash prizes. Also just for hosting your game there they give you profit sharing on the advertising. You can really tell that they are really trying to build a committed community of developers.

I know what you’re thinking if they host my game do they take the rights to it. The answers is no. You keep all rights to your content. You can have you game deleted at anytime and the game dose not need to be exclusively hosted there. I know some other site like this try to take the rights from you. As of right now Kongregate is not one of them.

I am going to be uploading a few games soon and I have a few other ideas I am going to start working on too. If you sign up let me know and I will add you as a friend. Make sure you play the game “Fancy Pants” it’s an amazingly smooth game.

Help, I need a CS3 upgrade!

Adobe is coming out with CS3 March 27th. I would be more excited but the sad thing is I just got the place were I work to upgrade me to CS2. The only why I can get them to upgrade me again is if CS3 has some unbelievable feature I can’t live with out.

That is why I am going to need your help. The two programs I use everyday are Photoshop and InDesign. So, if you are getting CS3 let me know how the new features work and give me your opinion about how useful they are. Just email them to jmosley[at]mrbaconpants[dotcom]. Thanks!

I am hopefully be going to a CS3 release meeting March 27th at New Perspective. Go here for more details. Evertime the Pittmfug has a meeting something come up so I can make it. I hope the trend stops.

Anti-Capitalist in America?

There is a very anti-capitalist feeling in America. Just look at both political party leaders. They are sounding more like socialist and fascist. Hillary with her socialized health care and Bush taking away privacy. We need to make sure in the next election we vote in a lover of freedom and a defender of the capitalist sprit that started this country.

When I talk to people about lowering government contorts and taxes on businesses they call me, a “greedy capitalist pig that has no heart.” That is not true at all. I just feel that the government gets in the way of businesses and often makes it an unfair playing field for competition. Here is a good article talking about gas prices and government control.

What should the government do about gasoline prices? Get its hands out of the market–and keep them off. – read more…

People need to understand that in a true Capitalist society they have all the power. If a “big bad company” is charging to much for their product just go to the competition. See how long that “big bad company” last when they have no customers. If you hate Walmart’s business practices, shop at Target. If you hate Exxon for not cleaning up a spill, get your gas some were else. Having the freedom to choose is what give you the power.

“[I]f you wish to fight for freedom, you must begin by fighting for its unrewarded, unrecognized, unacknowledged, yet best representatives—the American businessmen.” [America's Persecuted Minority: Big Business," Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal, 62.]

Capitalism is not just about making money, it’s about having choices and living your life to its fullest.

Gmail’s Unexpected Maintenance

Gmail is no longer working for me. For the past 4 days it will not let me login. I get the message,
